The above was taken at Christmas in the trendy club 'Paper' (with chums Rob and Jen). It was probably the last time I properly was blotto! My employer usually shuts down one of the central squares in London and does a great event with such wonderful guest speakers as Bob Geldolf. However saying that they didn't really have enough money last year for any good speakers but we did have a fairly impressive Queen Tribute band. Paper was not as impressive. As it is a celebrity haunt the bar tab ran out early so I believe we went somewhere afterward, but I am pretty vague on that point.
We were just discussing possible outings, so stay tuned in the next couple of months for tails of Thorpe park and Wimbledon. If we can get enough interest Karaoke may also be on the cards but most people wimped out on us last time.
I am on night shifts at the moment, which remain fairly un eventful. I have just had a couple of soft beverages with my good friends Tricky and Barbara who is back from Australia for a wedding. He is brilliant and never changes, I thought he might at least have an accent by now that I could pick on. The lucky bugger is also going VIP backstage to an Ozzy Osbourne concert while he is here. Im not sure given his past THAT is the best of ideas ;-p

24

I resisted as long as I could, but try as I might the first series of 24 has been thrust upon me by my brother Martin. I really wish he hadn't. Hubby and I are now totally hooked. I really do try and stay away from things I feel might, perhaps, be time better spent elsewhere. With 24, the time is actually the issue. If I watch all 6 series, I am worried that I might, on my death bed, look back and say; 'well there was 6 days I could have spent enriching my life'. The problem is it does suck you in for HOURS at a time (if you have the dvds).
It's odd I never question this at all when it comes to Stargate or Dr.Who. Even though now I have Sky plus HD I am suprised at how little normal TV I am watching. (Summers do tend to be poorer though).
I think the nature of my shift work makes it difficult to follow things of a soapy nature.
I think what I am trying to say is that maybe it is a blessing that episodic TV does draw to a close eventually. This has been on my mind recently since Joe Mallozzi wrote in his blog that unless ratings pick up, Atlantis won't make its 5th series.
A colleague of mine who was tragically killed on the way to work last year was a keen 'Neighbours' fan. Now while I realise that soaps are perhaps escapism from your own life, but why invest in something which you will never find out the ending to? I'd hate to think Andy is siting on his cloud trying to pick up BBC1 to find out if Paul Robinson has finally got his just desserts. That's why I prefer films and books. A neat little beginning middle and end, not much to ask I might get hit by a bus tomorrow!

With the above in mind it goes without saying that I find all forms of reality TV a total waste of time. Having said that I have been known to point and laugh at some Pop Idol audition clips on you tube (only because its something to talk about at work!) and quite like to entertain my adolescent fantasies of being a fashion designer by watching Project Catwalk/Runway.

As a caveat to that here's a great tip for life. If you have a shopping problem don't take a job right in the heart of London's trendy shopping district. Carnaby/Oxford Street.

There you go...that one's for free!

Naming Baby!

Just for fun (at the moment) the conversation between myself and my husband this morning turned to Baby names we like. Thought if I write them here chances are I might be able remember them one day if I ever found myself with child.

Girls names are proving the hardest but we both quite like Laura and Grace

But then I also like Charlotte, Sophie, Poppy, Emily, Cordelia, Jennifer, Kate among others but Hubby wasn't so keen on these.

Boys names we like are James, William/Will, Jack(sadly would be named after more TV characters than I care to think about), Henry/Harry.

Looking at these now though they seem quite normal, which I guess would be all required of a name.

More scary than names I have found out that the nearest maternity ward is The East Sussex and Surrey Hospital in Redhill. Isn't that a little far to go for checkups etc. I guess its still under 10 miles.

Got to work boss had a go at me for typing something in somewhere wrong..'oh' I thought. 'Its going to be one of those days when the thought of bearing children suddenly seems a lot more attractive.

I also bought some hair dye on the way to work. I hold my hands up and will admit that the blond was definitely a mistake. My hair resembles short lengths of straw. The bob I originally had is now long enough to drag up into a pony tail but I wish it would grow faster. I'm lead to believe that you have to take bleached hair out with red. I have bought quite a dark red (not copper) so I am hoping this will be fine. I also brought a brunette colour in case the worse happens and it does go green. I think I will do this when my week off starts next Thursday.

In an attempt to cut costs I am making my own lunch. My soggy sandwich just isn't the same. I miss my daily sushi :-) -this is another blog from Live journal by the way but that will be it now! Im staying over here!

Back to Blogging...finding somewhere comfortable to do it.

Ok bellow is a copy of what I wrote on my live journal..which I am not blogging on anymore. I have decided to use this one instead

I have decided due to an overwhelming urge to make my millions as a writer to properly start blogging more regularly. There's some thing about blogging on myspace which I don't particularly like. Mostly that entire posts would disappear just after writing them. I also thought that no one would find anything I had to say over there particularly interesting. I still don't but I read recently that a good solution to writers block is just to write and write about anything.
I should probably just re-cap a little bit about what I have been up to. My husband Alex and I have just moved into a detached house in the Worth area of Crawley where we have bought a detached early 90's property with slightly tired decor and bags of potential.

Whilest attending the Sussex equivalent of Bridget Jones' mums turkey curry buffet/BBQ last week, I learned that we do in fact live in the Posh area of Crawley so I can now look down at everyone else and be smug ;-) which is always nice.

It seems to be taking forever to get the place at least presentable at the moment. Striping a small wall of Wallpaper seems to take up to 4 hours at a time.
I also have been trying to get to the gym with reasonable regularity. The problem with this is that I have been eating twice as much so any of my hard work is currently being undone and them some So the beach bum I was promised at my induction by mid August (when I go to Jamaica) is now looking like a distant dream.

More recently (in the past week) I have discovered that non-alcoholic wine is not just re-branded grape juice and that you can enjoy it at the same pace as your alcohol drinking friends without the need to 'glug' did you know they even do a non-alcoholic Becks?

Yep I'm trying to get myself off the booze, which after the house warming is a difficult thing given that our left overs made our utility room look like a small off licence. Its not that I ever really had a problem its just when one is pondering the possibility of children soon...;-)
Lets just say I need to get more sensible.

Turner Broadcasting is still the most miserable place Ive ever worked and upon reflection I used to get more satisfaction as a sales assistant at the high (ha ha) quality outlet Mark-one when I was 16. I'm beginning to feel that a university education has been totally wasted on me. I would even go so far as saying that Film Studies was not what I wanted to specialise in and that a catalogue of bad career choices started when I had to repeat a year during my A-Levels. Teacher shouldn't be able to tell kids you can be a doctor unless you actually are a genius.
ah well can't change much about that now.
I also need to find some time to attempt the McKay contest which I am only doing for fun as I believe that copyright is going to be a definite issue. Ill probably just end up ironing though and not having time.
